forgive for my incorrect terminology but i'm inquiring about whether or not a usb hub (one connection to computer allowing 2 or more devices to be connected) is efficient enuf to use

i'm asking bcuz i have all my usb outlets (3) used up on my imac and want to connect a usb hub to use a printer and harddrive through the same usb port.

or should i buy a usb-firewire converter?

Suggest a PCI USB 2 and Firewire card. Hubs are not the most reliable of things and folk are regularly advising of trouble connecting things like KB, Mouse and external HDD through hubs.

Printers usually go okay as the demand does not seem to be as high.

harry, the guy has an iMac, so a PCI card won't really help.

I personally have used several USB hubs and have found no problem with them. My only suggestion is to make sure you get a powered hub as there are some devices that won't work properly on the ones that aren't powered.

I don't think the technologies are compatible with one another, and as such, you can't have a simply adapter to convert between the two, it would require something much more complicated than anybody would care enough to design, let alone purchase.
