Last night I went and was deleting some files off my hard drive that were trash. well evidently i threw the wrong thing away. Now i get this screen when i start up that says...
/etc/master.passwd: No such file or directory
/etc/master.passwd: No such file or directory
sh-2.05a#

it looks like a command prompt.

Umm...My approach to this problem would be to do an archive and install...(replace all system files, while preserving applications, users, home folders, etc)

Boot from Panther(or whatever OS X disk you want), and under installition type, (you'll see options somewhere there), select archive and install

Id suggest trying to start up in safe boot mode by shutting down the mac, then while powering up, hold down the shift key til you get the blue screen that says mac os x, if this doesnt work, then definitely an archive and install. and not to sound rude, or make you sound unintelligent, but if you're unsure of what a file is, dont delete it.

actually, that eject key shouldnt work if its not booting past the gray apple screen, but hold down the mouse while turning it on, the tray should eject, then insert the disk. :black:

thanx ill try that. the files are sitting in the trash is there anyway i can open it up then restore the files?
