Does anyone know if Time Machine uses compression when creating its backup? Reason I ask - MacBook with 160gb HDD backing up to a USB 2.0 external HDD of the same size. I'd like to use the same external drive to backup to from my WinXP machine in addition to the MacBook. WinXP backup program uses high compression. (around 45-50%)

Thanks and regards.

I don't think so. My 120Gb took up 120Gb on the backup drive.
