Hi!

I encounter rather weird behavior of my Mac when working with torrent files.

I installed Transmission as only torrent client. however, every now and then relation of the program and file extension is lost. When I click "open with..." it shows me Transmission and Opera(???) which was never installed.
When I do a Spotlight search for opera it finds no application, but if I select Opera from the "Open with..." menu, it shows up!

This happened on both my iMac and Macbook both with OEM Tiger and clean Leopard install... I have no clue why it is happening. I doubt that Opera can install itself somehow anonymously and without me noticing it.

Would appreciate any ideas on this matter.

Opera is a free web browser with torrent support. It does not install in a rouge manner. More than likely it was downloaded at one point and still lives in the disk image that it was downloaded from.

Do a spotlight search for dmg

That's the reason why I'm so confused!

I use Camino as my default browser and didn't even consider downloading Opera (tried its Win version and didn't like it). Moreover, as I've mentioned it happened on two different Macs and I didn't migrate any data from one to another. Even if someone from my family downloaded it on the iMac, which is kind of shared pc, I noticed the same on my Macbook which is used by me only.

Moreover, when I rebuild launch services in Onyx - it disappeard...

Do you have Photoshop installed? It comes bundled inside of Photoshop, maybe some other Adobe products, for some reason I cannot remember at the moment.

Actually, I do! I have Photoshop CS3 and Illustrator CS3 installed on both machines. So that really might be the source of the issue. Thanks for pointing out.

But I'm really surprised that the Adobe installer never indicated that it is installing anything other then CS3-related stuff...
I wonder, what does it need Opera for? And still, why its so well hidden from spotlight search?..

Download the free EasyFind and look for Opera again. Spotlight misses stuff (though I doubt it would miss a browser — unless it's hidden), but if you can't find it with EasyFind, it ain't there.

The app is described on the linked page.

Sorry I'm a few days late - but as a quick follow up:
Check the Photoshop package itself (Show Package Contents). I believe it's in there.
