OS 10.5 - Java not working in Safari

I can't get my Java to work in Safari. It works in FireFox. Any suggestions???

Mac Specs: Performa 6116 2GBSCSI 8MB OS 7.5.3

MacsWork is offline
Try a repair permissions, then reinstall the java package from the Apple site.

Be sure that safari is closed when installing.

Also try the old, "create a new user and see if it doesn't work for that new user trick".
