Hello,

I have several computers running leopard plus a few running windows and linux. I have just set up a xserve running leopard server. It is up and running and I have added the users and rebooted each of the leopard computers. They automatically find the server and offer to use the services of the server..... so far so good.

I agree that I want to use these services and enter the user name and password that I have specified on the server (which is the same as the password I have set on the other machine) BUT at this point the computer responds that the password does not match and authentification fails. I tried another machine using another user and this also fails with the same fault!

Any ideas? I have tried deleting and re-creating the user but get the same fault.

All the machines have the latest version of leopard with the xserve running the server version. The xserve was installed as a clean install removing the tiger server by reformatting during the install. When it first booted I selected standalone server as the server type as this seemed closest to what I wanted.

Further: Just noticed that time machine IS working to the server from the laptop! It is however the ONLY process that seems to be working iCal, Mail etc do not seem to be doing it!

Further 2: I can also "ssh cowasaki@xserve.lan" which accepts the password I set up!

Further 3: If I sit at the Xserve and run mail it asks for the password to access mail on the server. It will not accept the password either. However the password MUST be correct because I have logged in; ssh works; time machine works and I have replaced the password twice!

Experienced computer user, applications programmer and component level service engineer but came to the Apple platform with intro of intel!. Pro-photographer and director of electronics company.
