Im having trouble loading the 10.5.1 patch to my 2.8ghz intel core imac. It's telling me that my hard drive does not meet the requirements for the update. I have about 350 gig left and 500 gig drive. Any ideas??

Can you check the logs in the Console app? Applications/utilities
Also, try using Disk Utility to repair permissions and verify/repair disk.

When all else fails, try everything!

Exactly where did you get this update? You should be doing it via the Software Update utility. If you aren't, then you may simply have the wrong update, such as a beta or the server version.

Yeah, ideally I would have used the Software Update utility, but for some reason it doesn't work. This is the message that comes up when I try: 'The file “index-leopard-seed-1.sucatalog” couldn’t be found on the server “swscan.apple.com”. I got the 10.5.1 update from the apple site.

Excuse me for asking this but the only time I have seen your issue is with a pirated version of Leopard downloaded from a torrent. If I am wrong in your case, sorry, but every time someone has had that issue, that was the reason.

Ok. That's strange. Next question.... where did you get Leopard from? Retail disc? Pre-installed on the iMac (and if so, was it new from Apple)? Or did you download it (be honest here)?

EDIT: Doh! You beat me to my hunch, dtrav!

I bought the mac from a small business in Sydney. It came with Leopard already installed, but only had the Tiger discs in the box. The seller said that for some reason the computer didnt come with Leopard discs (which I thought was pretty strange and was fairly annoyed about because it was in the quote, and I was expecting to get them). It wouldnt surprise me if this guy put on some pirated system software. I didnt trust him at all...

Also I have just run a check over my hard drive to see if there is a problem. It's telling me I have a couple of illegal names and needs to be repaired. Can this be a problem as well?

If you didn't trust him, they why did you buy something from him?

Sounds to me like you were sold a system with an illegal copy of Leopard.

I realize that this post is really old!! However...

I am getting the error when I try to update a Mac that I purchased with leopard on it. I realized that it is either beta or not a legal copy.

I am trying to boot from a CD now and install leopard or Tiger on the mac, but the mac will not boot from the CD. When I click on the mounted Tiger install disk (legal copy), and try and install, it says that this is not a supported OS and to check the list for supported OS (I think,) Not looking at Mac right now.

Is there anyway for me to wipe the HD and install a legal copy/not beta OS?? Thank you
