Hey I have a 2 GHz Intel Mac. with 1 GB of ram.

My internal harddrive recently crashed, so I replaced it and now when I try to shut down/restart it freezes up and gives me a message saying I must restart, (but I actually have to shut down by holding the power button for about 5 seconds). It does this about 80% of the time. and now it is doing it sometimes when I quit Firefox.

any suggestions would be great

thanx

If that message telling you to restart is in several different languages, then you are experiencing a kernel panic. They can happen for many reasons, but on the Intel chipped Mac it is most commonly bad ram. Have you added ram? Do you still have the old ram to swap around?

That's probably the cause of the kernel panic. But read this article 1st. It's very informative...

Another common cause is filesystem corruption and/or a bad hard disk (it's rare, but DOA hard drives are not unheard of). I would recommend running a Verify/Repair in Disk Utility. If that doesn't appear to have corrected anything, you should also run the Apple Hardware Test and see if it comes up with anything.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!
