hard disk won't start up, invisible to disk utility
when i start up my macbook i get a flashing question mark icon.

when i start up with the installer dvd the internal hard disk is invisible to disk utility and system profiler.

i tried to use target disk mode with another computer but it didn't work.

    is there any solution?

(this began after a routine crash using itunes, the power button was pressed to force it to turn off)

Sounds like the controller card on the drive is fried. If so, the iTunes crash was result of that death, not a cause. If it is the card then the data on the platters is fine, you could swap the cards from an identical drive. But you already have a full backup, right?!
    Good luck!
