Hey people

Thinking of purchasing 10.5 today, but with me being at university, i'd rather not risk loosing compatibility with current software.

I use:

Camino
Thunderbird
Logic Pro suite (including compressor and soundtrack pro)
Reason 4.0
iLife 06'
Photoshop elements 4.0
Neo office
Journler
Gearbox (Line 6 toneport software)

These are key apps i use on a day to day basis.

Also, with the iLife 06 suite, how would i go about installing that on the new OS? I want to format before installing to save issues with upgrading. I presume I will just use the disc that came with my macbook originally?

Any help really appreciated, I hope to order this by around 1pm GMT so if you can, help a.s.a.p

Cheers M-F

I have not tried Logic Pro, Reason or gearbox, but everything else works here.
You can grab iLife 06 from the Tiger DVD that came with your machine. It's either in Optional Installs or another place. It's mentioned here on the forums so try a search. It's been a while since I did it on my one Mini.

Hopefully someone else here will know about your audio apps.

Real fast, I just checked the Journier site. Read what they say about using it with Leopard and be sure to get the update.

And keep in mind if you're using iMovie, you can download iMovie '06 from Apple if you need some of the feature set it had vs '08. It will keep both versions on your machine.

TS, off of Apple's website:

Quote:
Logic Pro 8.0.1
Logic Pro 8.0.1 addresses specific customer issues and improves Leopard compatibility of Logic Pro 8.0. It includes Waveburner 1.5.1 and Impulse Response Utility 1.0.1
And as for Reason 4, these are the system requirements listed on the website:

Quote:
Mac OS:
Mac OS X 10.4
Processor: G4 1GHz and up or Intel Mac
Memory: 512 MB RAM minimum, 1 GB recommended
Screen resolution: 1024x768
2 GB free hard disk space
DVD reader
Recommended: MIDI keyboard with built-in MIDI interface, or MIDI keyboard and MIDI interface
No mention of Leopard. But here's a thread at 440Forums/MacMusic where the members list the apps that do work in Leopard.

Hope this helps.

Just remember to make a backup on an external before you install Leopard. Use SuperDuper! on your Tiger install to the external.

If ever you need to revert you can go back using the backup.

Tbh, a good format will do this machine good anyway, so im backing up the entire home directory but without backing up the OS. If it really comes down to it, and leopard doesnt work, I can always just reinstall the original OS, its not to much of an issue.

But yeh your right, my home directory is being backed up to my Maxtor external HDD, and then THATS being backed up onto my WD mybook drive

Just whilst im thinking, now ive backed up everything, is there anything I should do to prepare for this? My plan is to format and then install the new OS.

You could make a list of the apps you need to reinstall and doublecheck the compatibility issues with Leopard. Other than that, verify the validity of your backup, just in case.

And then I guess you can use the Erase and Install option.

I'm curious... Any reason in particular you want to upgrade now and not wait for the 10.5.2 update? Leopard at 10.5.1 is still pretty buggy to my tastes...

Hey MHC

Decided to order now since this is the only time I will have some "spare" cash for a while. And rumours are that 10.5.2 shouldn't be far away, I know rumours about apple are hardly reliable but, I genuinly beleive It wont be long until they release the next update ^_^... (And im impatient hehe!)

Just finished writing the list of apps that are third party... rather suprised just how much I have on here lol

Adium
Photoshop elements 4
aMSN
AppDelete
Azureus
Camino
Cyberduck
djay
Flip4Mac
Google Earth
Handbrake
iSquint
iStumbler
JewelToy <-- Very addictive!
Journler <-- Perfect tool for me at Uni
Limewire
Line 6 Gearbox
Logic Pro suite
MacTheRipper
Monolingual
NeoOffice
OnyX
PicMark
Reason
Sixty-Force <-- N64 Emu
Stairs (Porrasturvat) <-- Stupidly addictive!
Stuffit
Toast 8 Titanium
Virtue-Desktops <-- Shouldn't need this with spaces
VLC
VNC Dimension
Yahoo! Widgets <-- Use it for a cool widget on my desktop
