I have a real problem with my IMac (Leopard) as I am recieving the error message

"Cannot save Project file. The selected folder is read-only or you do not have permission to store files there."

I notice that when I check my Account I am shown as admin but the padlock to prevent changes is now undone and I cannot lock it. I have tried unlocking various folders such as Documents by going to Get Info and unlocking, using my password, but I still cannot save to the folder and when I reopen Get Info the folder is locked again.

I have run Repair Permissions from my MAc OS X disk and it has made no difference.

I am a newbie to the Mac and would really appreciate any help.

This seems to be a problem with Leopard. I got it after cloning and upgrading the HD of my Macbook. Fortunately I had the old drive in an external USB box and I was able to clone it back so now it is running fine, but I still don't know what caused the problem. There are a number of fixes around, none worked for me (including an official Apple fix).

Hopefully there will be a fix in the next Leopard update - due in 7-10 days. If not, I shall seriously consider going back to Tiger.

P.S. Of course if you don't have administrator access to your system, I don't know how the update can be loaded. That is why I am making no changes whatever to my system until it happens.

Make sure all your data is backed up. You may need to end up having to re-install the system.

Try this, Mac OS X 10.5: Administrator user changes to standard.
