I got 10.5 for Christmas, but I'm not sure how well it would run on my iBook. This is my system overview,
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.2 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 256 MB
Bus Speed: 133 MHz

I also have 35.56 GB of space left on the hard disk. I already notice slowdown when I'm running multiple applications, do you think upgrading to 10.5 would cause more slowdown?

I am running 10.5.1 Leopard on a 1.33Ghz iBook G4. The thing that is slowing down your iBook with Tiger and many applications running is the 256Megs RAM. That is not even enough for Tiger leave alone Leopard. If you Max out the RAM you will be fine with 10.5 Leopard. It runs here on my iBook as fast as Tiger did. I have 1GB RAM by the way.

Is yours the 12" iBook 1.2Ghz??

Your machine has 256Megs soldered to the Logic board and you can put in a 1GB module for 1.25GB RAM. That will run Leopard very well for you. Your system takes a PC2100 DDR So-Dimm.

Using Leo on iBook 1.33Ghz +512MB RAM. While the OS by itself is not slow, it does use up a little more RAM. So I suggest you get yourself at least another 512MB RAM though 1GB is recommended.

I've never upgraded my iBook. How much do you think the 1GB would cost, including the cost of labor?

@ dtravis7: I have the 14" iBook.

Oh, dtravis7, I just reread your post. I got my iBook the summer of '04, so it came with 10.3. I'm still running 10.3.9.

Upgrading the RAM is not hard on the iBook. On mine it's under the keyboard under a metal shield. Took me 2-3 minutes. I will check and get back to you with a few URL's of where to purchase RAM for it.

I looked on ebay and it looks like it would cost $80-100 for a 512MB stick. Is that about the price on those other sites?

I have an iBook G4 1.33,1.25 ram and Leopard is running wonderfully. I would definitely max out your ram though and then I think you'll be very happy at the performance.

Somehow forgot all about this thread. Here is some ram at very good prices for your iBook if you are still looking.
