Hello-

Ever since I installed Leopard when it came out, I've had an annoying problem. The screen backlight keeps going off after a very short period of inactivity - about 1 or 2 minutes.

I have Energy Saver set to put the screen off in 20 minutes, screen saver in 10, yet it goes dark far, far quicker than that. Am I missing something?

Thanks for any help.

Only thing I can think of is check to make sure you adjusted the right setting. Under energy saver there is one of putting the computer to sleep and one of the display.

Also, if you are using a notebook, check to make sure that you have it set for whichever power source you are using. There are separate setting for when you are using your battery vs your power adapter.

Thanks for the suggestions, but after moving the sliders, then putting them back, now it works. It must have been a bug of some sort.

Yes, it is indeed a bug. I find this to be very bothersome too. I have a MBP and for some reason I have the option "Automatically reduce brightness....." unchecked but for some reason it still reduces brightness before sleep. I have to manually check and uncheck this every time I use the computer if I don't want it to reduce brightness.

Just curious why Apple can't seem to find a solution for this little problem.

1st - Performa 5200 75MHz // 2nd - B&W G3 300MHz // 3rd - MBP C2D 2.2 GHz

1st - iPod Touch 8gig

It's probably low on their priority list right now

Um oh well, its always good to save some energy =/
Be sure to uncheck the "automatically reduce brightness" function though.

this happens to me too...
it is not the 'automatically reduce brightness' as the screens backlight (not the screen itself) completely shuts off... the sleep light does not even come on to let you know that the screen is off...
Here is my thread on the exact same subject: Idle Screen Backlight Shutoff
