I am a new mac user. I just got the 17" 2.6, matte display.
I tried some of the display settings and found the stretch to distort the images. The font gets to small for these old eyes in the maximum settings.
Any suggestions?

Return it and get something with a lower-resolution display. The 15" MacBook Pr is slightly better, but not much. Or use an external display.

LCDs don't scale to anything other than their native resolution. This is true of all LCDs
