Hey,

I'm reactively new to macs, but I got a clamshell ibook G3 from a friend, with a current 6gb drive.

i've been using os 10.3.9 at rather good speed (only using Adium, Safari + iTunes).

but, i really want to have a classic environment(for some of the older games which i love), and i'm buying a 60GB hard drive to install.

i've searched the net and found some help, but, i just don't understand it.

they said i have to have mac os x COMPLETELY in the first 8gb, so does that mean if i have a partition of 55gb for mac os x and the rest for os 9.1 it won't work?

i'm not sure i'd ever be booting into os 9 anyway, because i can use the environment in os x. gah.

i'm not sure if this is the right section or not, but any help would be much appreciated !

thank you & merry christmas,
chrish.

You need 9.2 for the classic os to work from panther

you do not need to partition the drive - os x and 9.2 can exist on the same drive (that is my set-up on this G4)

Make sure you buy the retail version of 9.2 that will run on any g3 and g4 mac

ah,
i have a retail version of 9.1 + a CD with the updates to get to 9.2, can i do it that way on the same partition?

and if i want to boot from it, can i?

but what about the 8GB rule, does that still exist seeing as it'll be a 60gb drive?

thanks !
