    iMac 20" core duo 2ghz; OS-X 10.4.7; 2gbram; 256mb graphics; 250gbHD; delivered 6/14/06
Password to use the machine at all.
Didn't find with search. Problem has arisen with nosey brother-in-law.

Is it possible to have password so that the machine can't be used at all when turned on unless password entered? I know how to password folders, etc. What I'd like to do is password the entire machine. Can I do that?

For Tiger, go to "System Preferences", then "Personal", then "Security". Check "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver", then check "Disable automatic login". Under "System", "Accounts", you can assign a password to your account or change the one you already have assigned.

I'm presently not running Leopard, but I'm sure the procedure is very similar if you are.
