Question on a keyboard shortcut

Not sure how to word this, but...
how would I use the keyboard to navigate between the 'buttons' in the shutdown dialog(or any dialog like it) -pic below-
I tried using the arrow keys, but all I get is the 'you pushed a wrong key in the wrong place' sound.
Any suggestions are welcome

Tab will cycle through the buttons.
The Space Bar will activate the highlighted button.

If you don't yet have it enabled, you need to activate the option "Turn on full keyboard access" in the "Keyboard and Mouse" section of the System Preferences. Once done, you can tab through the buttons as D3v1L said above.
