okay... i am trying to enter root command in terminal.
so.. i type su
then the prompt will ask me for password, so i type my admin password and nothing..???? confused.. must i set a password and if so where would i do this?

thanks -- this was a bit easier in mandrake

Lets assume you have administrative privileges and the corresponding user is <melow>
On the terminal type sudo melow and press enter.
When asked, enter the pw for user <melow>

Otherwise,
type su melow and press enter.
Enter the pw
This will however work only if <melow> is the admin (root) user.
