I had this problem upon upgrading to leopard where i could not login. I was talked through booting up from the CD and setting up the root account. Even though I can now administer the account from my user account the unwelcome guest is still the real administrator and in preferences i cannot get rid of him. Is there anything I can do to delete him or just put up with him until bobcat comes out and this happens all over again?

I just upgraded to 10.5.1 and thought maybe they would have fixed this but i guess not.

Any suggestions will be welcome!

Thanks

Rob

You should be able to delete the guest account from the root account.

I tried that but the guest account is the root account here is what it looks like i will try to add a pic

The first one is the guest root account and the second is my account with administrative privileges. On the guest root administrative account there is no way to delete it or am I over looking something?

Thanks,

Rob

Hmmm, I've never seen that. I've alway understood that the root account had to be named root and nothing else.

odd one that - you cant disable him - but that isn't the root account as far as I know

You can erase it from the log-in window though

Is the root account the one you set up first time you install the os? If it is, then it is the same as the Administrator account.

Just need a perspective on the root user.
