How can I play these .mkv video files I have in Mac? I have tried the newest version of VLC Media Player and MPlayer. Neither worked. Anything else I can try or a video codec I need to download?

Thanks!

Anyone? Now if I play them off my laptop's HDD (not the external) they open in a ~10x20 pixel box with audio but hardly any video.

You can try installing Perian...

Beyond that, don't know what to tell you.

Perian will work just fine. It has a loading time to it, but other than that it plays even 1080p on an iMac 2.0Ghz
