Start Up Problem (Darwin/BSD

when i start up my computer instead of going to the OSX login screen it starts into a terminal screen reading:
Darwin/BSD (Mal-Functions-Computer.local) (console)
login:

no matter how I start up the computer it comes to that screen...anybody have an idea of how i can get around it

Mac Specs: G4 1Ghz OS X 10.4.7

If there is still problems, boot into single user terminal restart, hold Apple S and once there type fsck -fy until ***FILE SYSTEM CHANGED*** stops showing
