It's more like a feature built into the OS, much like Expose or Dashboard. You won't be able to remove it, but you will surely be able to disable it.
I personally love the concept of Spaces. In fact, I've been using VirtueDesktops for several months and I couldn't imagine using my Macbook without it. I would suggest checking it out and then you'll understand the hype about Spaces. ![]() June 2007 July 2009 |

The downside? If your like me and you have Widgets (Yahoo/Konfabulator) on your desktop, they don't show up on every desktop. In order for them to, you have to open then separately on each desktop. If you are on say desktop #4 and you have Safari on desktop #2, if you open Safari on desktop #4 it will flip you back to desktop #2 where it is already open. I'm not sure if it is something I will use once I upgrade to 10.5 to be honest. ![]() |

i had a multi-desktop app on my computer. i thought it was cool. on screen i had homework going. on another i had some stuff i didn't want my gf to see. another screen had my email.
i could live without it, but i'm sure i could find it useful on 10.5 too. EDIT: baggss, how did you get to use it already? |

Will it be treating apps the same way it treats widgets? Could I theoretically have 4 copies of iTunes running at the same time?

Every time I tried to open an App on a desktop when it was already open on another, it switched me back to the other desktop automatically.

That's good, sometimes VirtueDesktops has problems with that feature. I personally think it's a great idea, but then again, that's because that is how I want to use multiple desktops.
The one feature I like most about Spaces is the ability to view all of them Expose-like and drag applications from one desktop to the next. ![]() June 2007 July 2009 |

Have not tried that. I will the next time I boot to it though.

Ever tried Compiz or Beryl on Linux? Other than the CPU usage at times, I do gotta say it blows anything mac can do out of the water. Especially the number of options for multi-desktops, like spaces-style, a rotating cube, standard insta-change, etc.
Just for any of you interested in dual-booting or whatnot. PC: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz, 2 GM RAM, Total 750 GB HDD, Windows Vista Business (For gaming), Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron (64-bit), Slackware 12 (For GTK# coding) Mac: 1.66GHz, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD, Mini |
