Archive and Install is for an existing system that has problems. You run Archive and Install and nothing is lost and it makes an archive of the old system also. Erase and Install is just that. Format the Hard Drive and start over with a new OS. Everything is lost. |

The beauty of A & I is that it preserves all of your settings in your profile. Things like Network settings, startup items, desktop pictures, most custom icons and so on are still there and still the same after an A & I. It also never hurts to have a fresh base system installed for the computer to boot from. The old system is left in tact and simply renamed "Old System" and you can delete it at your leisure.
