Okay... i know how to do a total screen shot but how do i screenshot like a certain place i did it on a mac, but not sure on macbook pro. any help

If you want to "crop" out a certain part of your screen:

Cmd + Shift + 4

If you want to capture an individual window:

Cmd + Shift + 4 + Spacebar
