hello, need help here. i just bought a wdc my book premium 500gb external hard drive that i need to use on both PC and MAC for video editing. since i have to work with large files (some files exceeds 5gb), i had to convert the drive from FAT32 to NTFS, it works fine on PC, but when i bring it to MAC, it can't initialize the drive. i'm using MAC OS X 10.4.10. is there a way to make it work on both PC and MAC? oh and i happened to have already backed-up more than 100gb onto the drive, so i'm hoping there's an easy way out without having to reformat the drive. thank you.

I went through a similar experience. Bottom line, is you can't use the drive for both the PC and Mac. You will need to format the drive for the Mac and use it only for that. As I also recall, the procedure got a little complicated and I needed to call customer support for guidance.

There is a new option on the block, Paragon Software's NTFS for Mac. It might just be your answer. There is a free beta available right now. See the following thread:

Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X Public Beta Testing

At least one user has tried it now and reported that it worked quite well.

My Macs: PowerMac G5 Quad, 2.5 GHz, 4 Core, Mac Pro, 3.2 GHz 8 Core, Power Macintosh 7500/100
My iStuff: 32 GB iPhone 4, 30 GB iPod Video, 16 GB iPod Touch
My OS': Mac OS X Tiger, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Mac OS X Leopard, Mac OS 8.6, openSUSE 10.3, Win XP
