I keep International in my menu bar because I make use of Japanese input quite often for school and other things. It seems that nearly every time I switch over to hiragana/katakana input in Adium, Camino or Word, OSX will flip out.
Usually it just crashes and tries to relaunch the program a few more times before it settles, however, last night it caused finder and the menu bar to loop itself in a crash and relaunch cycle, couldn't launch anything without it crashing either. It only stopped when I managed to force my macbook to log out. Once I logged in again, everything was fine.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

Thanks!

I had exactly the same problem, it all crashed when i wanted to use Hiragana/katakana in Adium; somehow it all repaired itself when i updated OS X... Good Luck!

...and that's odd. I don't use either all that often (once a month probably, although I do have a particular MS Word document at the office that seems to make my computer spontaneously switch to hiragana, and I end up typing several characters before I swear, backspace a few times and switch back -- this happens several times per day); I've never had a crash under any 10.4.x versions when typing hiragana.

It seems to have fixed itself for Adium. It's been behaving today so far, but in Camino it either crashes or reverts back to Canadian. How odd.
