First off, hello to everyone, i am new here and i would hope someone here could please help me out.

I have the MacBook, 2,16ghrz, intel core 2 duo processor

i am new to Mac, got this laptop about 4 days ago

i already having some problems

the one problem that i cant seem to fix, is when i go to the finder toolbar,
and hit "go" then click on "network" for some strange reason, network doesnt seem to open.

now i have tried the other options under "go" like computer, home, application and utilities, and they all work besides network

the only way i seemed to fix it was by reformatting my computer with the 2 cds that came with it..

if someone would be able to help me, i would be very appreciative,

p.s. another thing...i would like to kno if its a bad thing to reformat the mac frequently, because i have done it twice in the past few days....now i dont want to continue to do it unless i have to...was just wondering if there is any negative effects.

Once again thank you to anyone who can help me

Quick question. Why have you formatted your Mac twice soon after buying it? I can't possibly think of what you could have done to it to have required a format.

As for the network thing. Do you have any other computers on your network? Are they in a workgroup?

Thanks for responding Kash, the reason i reformatted was because i thought i manually caused the network button not to work...now i have 2 computers sharing on a router, but im am not sharing files between them....

is it a terrible thing that i formatted the computer 2 times

because it seems everytime i go to the FinderToolbar and click on GO followed by Network...the network window doesnt open...i have get to it by another way

It's not terrible, it just seems to be a rather overkill move just because the Network isn't showing. It's like using a nuke to kill a fly

If your computers ARE on a workgroup, follow these steps to add the Mac to the workgroup. Go to System Preferences --> Sharing. Make sure Personal File Sharing and Windows Sharing are checked. Then click on the Spotlight icon (blue icon top left) and type in "Directory Access". Click on the lock in the lower left corner, select SMB, then hit the Configure Button. Type in the name of the workgroup and hit OK.

If you can't access the Network, try resetting the Mac and try again.

Also, instead of accessing the Network through the Go menu, open up a Finder window and click on Network and see if anything pops up.

Once again thank you Kash, the sharing i have seemed to figure out somewhat...

about the network thing, i know how to access it another way, its just its a new computer and i wanted to know if there was a reason that when i enter it through findertoolbar, go, network, the window doesnt seem to open...but all the other windows do open through "go"

reformatting wont hurt/damage your computer. It just seems strange that you have done it 2x in the last few days. Can you access your mac off the other computer on the network ? if not then there is a problem with the network. if yes then try a cable between the 2 computers to make a network - as wireless can be tempromental.

p.s. - welcome to the forums

the problem is not opening an actual network...

the problem is that when i try to open the actual network window, through thr finder toolbar "go" then nework....that same window that has Macitosh HD, Desktop, Applications, Documents, MOvies, Music, and Pictures as tabs on the left hand side wont open....and it wont open only when i go to network

if i press the apple button and N....it opens
if i press any other option at the "GO" on the toolbar they open

everything opens but network

the only way i access that part of the menu, is by opening something else lke aplication, and then chosing network above the Macinitosh HD option

I think you've deleted the network shortcut from the finder sidebar. Just go to finder preferences (Command + comma) and enable the "Network" button on the sidebar.

Its very difficult to understand what you are saying. Maybe a screenshot would show us better (command + shift + 4 and drag) what you are trying to say.

I normally do a Command+K and it works.

One more thing. if you are doing a reinstall, do a complete reinstall, that is, erase and install. Sometime even Archive and install leaves traces behind...

Don't worry, nothing is wrong with your system. I just tried accessing the Network through the Go menu on the four Macs in my house and none of them work, but they all work fine when going through the Finder.

Ok, thanks Kash i really appreciate it, I'm ok now, lol do you know what could actually cause the Macs not to allow access network through "GO" on the Finder Toolbar?
