OS 10.4 - slow reacting hot corners

Hi,
I notice with my latest OSX install on my new harddrive that my hot corners are not acting very "hot." When I go to a corner sometimes my all windows function wont work at all, and I have to keep running my my mouse into that corner. What could be wrong?
