OS 10.4 - Question about erasing the harddrive

Hi,

My buddy is getting rid of mac. He is going to erase the disk, when he boots up to the cd, he has 3 options for the hard drive. 1. The drive 2. Mac Hdd 3.95 gig drive. if he erases 2 and 3 will all his data be gone from the machine?

To the best of my knowledge this is correct (If I understand exactly what you are saying).

He would be better off doing a restore using the disks that came with his Mac.

well he erased both the part that was titled when he did erased 3 and rebooted it prompted him to create a new user and after he did 2 it came up with a folder with a question mark in it.

Ouch... ok.

Has he got the orignal CD's/DVD's that came with his Mac?

after erasing the part that said mac hd he reinstalled the os and it came back to the mac os X slapsh screen like a clean install

I thought you meant that you couldn't get it to boot
