I borrowed my Son's OS-10.4.X install discs to see if my old G4 could be upgraded before I bought the system. The first message that came up was "this software with not work on this computer". I know it will work on G3,G4, & G5 Macs. I have an upgraded processor card but it has always worked OK with OS-10.3.9. Then I noticed the printing on the CD said "G5". Does this mean it will only work on a G5?
Anyway I just ordered the operating system on Amazon.com for $75. I will risk losing the money if it won't upgrade.
I would appreciate any comments.

Yes. If it is not a retail version of the OS, then it will only install and work on the system that the disc was designed for, in your case those discs will only work on a G5 Power Mac.

If you have ordered the full-retail version, then that will work on any system that meets the minimum requirements.

Thank you too much for your reply. I was willing to gamble with $75 for OS-10.4.X since it was much lower cost than buying new Mac.
The System discs haven't arrived yet and I am relieved by hearing you comments.
Thanks so much.
