OS 10.4 - how do i upgrade?

Hi there!

Sorry i have a bit of newbie question.
I am running 10.3.x and i would like to upgrade to 10.4.x.
Can i simply install an upgrade or to i have to do a complete reinstall including backing up all of my work? Also would i have to pay for this?

i have very limited hard drive space so i would like to avoid this if possible.

thanks!

You need to purchase OS X 10.4, and run the installation off the disk, you can choose to do either a upgrade install, archive install, or a erase and install.

Depending on your Mac and how urgently you need to upgrade, you might want to wait for 10.5., which is coming out this september.

If your Mac is capable of running it, you might want to hang on for a few months - you've managed it so far!

Yup.

If you select upgrade current installation, it'll leave all your files intact and only upgrade the OS & included apps.
