OS 10.4 - Stuck at blue startup screen

Whenever my brother turns on his mbp it won't go past the blue screen with the apple and the loading gear. I think it is due to not upgrading his software, but any suggestions on how to get it to start up would be a big help!

Mac Specs: MBPRO 15.4" | 2.0 GHz | 2GB mem | 120 GB/5400 | SuperDrive DVD RW/CD RW
I had that problem, actually, not too long ago... I had to reinstall my OS...

insert the original OSX CD and hold down the C key...... boot from the CD and do a disk utility and check your disk for errors. It might fix the problem and if it doesn't... reinstall the OS.

Good luck

A reinstall is likely not necessary (it rarely ever is).
Take a look at this page from Apple's support site for some more information.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h...m=106464#symp1

(yes, before anyone mentions it, the page is an older one that references OS X 10.3, but the information is still valid for Tiger)

I HAD to reinstall.... once I booted from the CD and did the disk utility, it attempted to fix 3 times and failed... I had some bad sectors or something... my post about it is in here somewhere...
