Ever since the latest security update from Apple, I'm having the opposite problem that most people seem to have: I know exactly what my administrator password is, but now it's asking me for an administrator username, and I don't have the foggiest idea of what it could be. I entered my account name and my short name, but didn't like that. I've even tried "idiot's luggage" things like "admin" and "root", but to no avail.

How do I figure out what the administrator's username is?

The box that appears expects your short name and your password. If you're not sure what your short name is, it's the same as you user directory

That was the second thing I tried, but that didn't work either.
