Password Protect a Folder on the Mac

PS. Don't add the password to your KeyChain.

Semi off topic, but has anyone ever thought about password protected zip files? When using winzip (or most any other archive compressing software in Windows), one can encrypt their .zip (or .rar, .7zp, whatever) with a password. I wonder what happens when you attempt to open an encrypted .zip in OS X.
