Can I change the name of the Owner/User?
Got my little iMac (to have a play with) and installed OS X a-fresh on it's HDD.

Using my name and details during setup.

I may want to give this machine to a lady friend which means just changing email settings etc so all works for her, but can I remove MY name from the OS as the owner/user etc and put her name in it's place?

    Specs:
    iMac 5.1 | iMac 7.1 | iPod Touch | iPod Nano
    Yep:
    System Preferences > Accounts

Then change it in the Address Book entry as well.

I was under the impression that you can change the name, but you cannot change the short user name. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My friend changes the short name... but he had to manually fix a lot of things.

You're usually better off just making a new user account, checking the Allow This User to Administer box, logging in as the new owner, and deleting your old account(s).

But then all their preferences would be gone. He's trying to avoid that.

    Thanks for replies so far.

I don't mind adjusting some preferences afterwards, it's just that as a "user" your name tends to get into places as you install bits etc.
And if it was to be someone elses machine I'd like my name gone.
