Hello All,

Is there any utility package I should use with a Mac? I know I will get mixed reviews but even on the PC they have a built in Defragmentation Tool. Do you Defrag on a Mac?

Also I assume I need AntiVirus - correct.

Any other necesities? Toast? etc.

Thanks,
Rich

Welcome to the Mac-Forums!

Nope, Macs don't need to be defragged.

You only need anti-virus software if you're networked with PCs that could get the virus.

Nothing is deemed a necessity unless you need it...if you need Toast, buy it!

I try to Command+Shift+/ when I can.

Welcome rvacs!!

Check out the list of "critical apps" in my Linux to Mac Switcher'd Guide at http://www.campbell-tx.net/MacOSX/Li...linux2mac.html

Even though the list is in a Linux-2-Mac guide, it is not Linux specific at all; no matter what you are switching from, you will be interested in these apps.

My Macs: iMac 27" 3.4 GHz, Mac Pro 3.2 GHz, PowerMac G5 Quad 2.5 GHz, G4 Cube with 1.2 GHz Upgrade
My iStuff: 64GB iPhone 5, 64GB iPad4, 30GB iPod Video, 16GB iPod Touch
My OS': Mac OS X Lion, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Mac OS X Tiger, Mac OS 9.2.2, openSUSE 10.3

I have also just bought an i-mac and a friend suggested macaroni a freeware utility that runs in the background doing general tidy ups of the harddisc. I have installed it and, fingers crossed, no problems yet. Being an (ex)windows user the ease of macosx is very reassuring but hard to get used to!

I'd really strongly suggest searching. Every one of your questions has been answered on the board. Always use the search feature at the top of the forum first. You'll find lots of good information.
