Im using osx - not sure what version, im sure its not 10.0 though, i just didnt know what to put there

Is there a way to send a message to another workstation on the same LAN. I know for windows you use the net send command, but how do you make a message pop up on another persons computer. An admin sent me a message one time, and i was wondering how i could reply to him. Any help would be appreciated. Also if you still dont understand what im asking for say so and ill try to rearrange my works

iChat has Bonjour, or Rendezvous for the older version of OS X, that allows you to chat over a network, but I believe that only works with iChat, so if you are trying to talk with a PC, taht won't help much.
