OS 10.4 - java question

i think my the java apps on my system are buggered. when i install java based apps such as limewire and others, it opens to an empty dialogue box with just an ok button which doesnt work. also when i open these apps in the java utlities folder: Input Method Hotkey, Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings, Java Cache Viewer and Java Cache Viewer and Java Preferences in the J2SE 5.0 folder i also get a blank dialogue box! please help!
