When I was a Win XP user, I would occasionally use the Windows Notepad app to strip out unwanted formatting and other hidden coding in a file. By using Copy/Paste in and out of Notepad, one gets a plain ASCII text copy. This is particularly useful when dealing with something copied off the web that just won't display correctly in your email client or word processor.

Is there a simple and quick way to do the same thing in OS X 10.4?

Thanks!

Isn't that the same as Plain Text in Mac OS X's TextEdit?

Edited to add:

Plain Text strips unwanted formatting I would think...

OK, thanks! I see that TextEdit>Preferences gives you an option for Plain Text. I didn't know that was there. I think that is the same thing I was getting using Notepad.

I Love this Forum!!!
