I bought a used imac running on 10.4.7. I want to create a new administrator account to the computer but I can't, the lock to add users is on and every time i try it asks for the current admin password:radioacti me for the current admin password and I don't know it! I have total acces to the computer is there a way to get the password from it?

Welcome to Mac-Forums, juancq! :girl:

Insert the install disk that came with the Mac, restart holding down the C key and follow these steps: Mac OS X: Changing or resetting an account password.

Well as far as I know this is the only way you can get yourself out of that mess. The alternative is to buy the full install DVD of Tiger 10.4.x and use that instead of the disk(s) that originally came with your iMac. Read this before getting a bargain off of eBay for Panther 10.3 or Jaguar 10.2...

I'll never stress enough the point to always get the installer disks when you buy a used Mac. This is your ticket to bail yourself out of problems like these not to mention if/when you have to reinstall the OS or an app that came with your Mac. A lot of people come in here saying that they didn't get their install disks after buying a Mac from a friend or have lost them (!?!?!?)

Maybe those many people stole their Macs and in their rush forgot to steal the install discs lol

Who knows? *Shrug*

It could be people coming from the Windows culture. I do know a lot of people who have PeeCees and they didn't get any Windows CDs to come with their spankin' new boxes. Go figure...

I have a tiger disc and tried this steps but it won't do it on this imac. I tought the disc was the problem but I tried in on a different mac and it did the trick! Does anyone know:confused: why?
Do I have to get a 10.4.7 tiger disc?

If you borrowed an install disk from another Mac (like say you have an iMac and you borrow a friend's iBook install disks) it won't work. You need the disk that came with the iMac OR a full install disk like the one you just bought.

I have the same problem with the E Mac I was just given....not stolen and yes I am an ex windows PeeCEee user. It was at my mums work (Doctors Office) and she didn't get the install disk when she was given it.....free is good. I have just ordered Tiger OS X 10.4 and am awaitoiing it in the post. Is it the same as with intel Win PC's...just stick in the DVD and it will auto run and install? I don't want to lose some of the programs that came with the HDD that was in the machine.

So far I like MAC's but they are somewhat different from what I am used to.....makes it fun to be at the screen again....although when I am mid sentance on my Win PC and hit end the cursor jumps to the end of the line, something this MAC does not seem to do.
