I am running OSX 10.4 on a macbook 1.83 GHz intel duo with 1 Gig ram. I have a couple problems and was looking to see if anyone else encountered any of these issues....I have updated the firmware to the latest version if that helps!

1. My desktop has files with no icons and also the icons in finder have disappeared. I also have trouble accessing the network (we have a Mac OSX server).

2. Whenever i have my wireless mouse on, MS excel crashes and only works after i have shut down the mouse (Mighty Mouse).

Can anyone suggest any solutions to this problems?

well, those are odd problems...

how long have you been using the macbook?

have you ever cleaned the system caches?

try onyx, and see if cleaning the caches helps with your first problem. it may also be a preferences file that's gone corrupt. i'm not sure where or which one could be at fault (kind of a shot in the dark anyway).

the excel problem... sheesh. that's weird. i'm guesing this is excel for mac, not for windows through parallels?

As for excel I'd try the MS update app in the office folder. Be sure the suite is fully patched. MS Excel has had really weird mouse issues on both platforms in the past. I'm not suprised.

You can use Onyx to clean the icon cache. Also /Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist should be backed up and then trashed. Followed by a reboot.

thank you for your replies! yes this is excel for mac and well i am freaking out now because our IT guy tried fixing it and i got news that the mac stopped booting up....it seems that there was a hard drive problem....something about the node structure not being right....i have had this thing for just 6 months!
