It appears that the Installer.app program on my dad's Mac mini is somehow broken. Any .pkg I double click launches the installer and it appears in the dock, but no windows show up.

I am fairly new to the Maxintosh OS, but I am experienced with both windows and Linux, and as such I have no problem with the Terminal.

I am hoping there's an easy solution like somehow reinstalling the installer

First thing to try is a permissions repair using Disk Utility. Select the disk on the left side and you'll the tools on the right.

The second would be an fsck -fy from single user mode, but lets see how a permissions repair works.

neither one of those worked, in fact, Disk Utility wouldn't even launch! I repaired permissions via terminal and no go.

My dad took it into the apple store to visit the Genius bar, and they messed with some stuff in library and now its working adain.
