hi, I can't seem to delete windows media player for macs from my macbook.
I downloaded it and it didn't work, now I can't remove it. Using get info I checked it wasn't locked yet when you try to trash it message says it's locked, hello! When I had a pc you could use file utilities to find all the components and remove them. Anyone now how to do this on a mac I'm lost again. Thanks for looking. |

okay, you downloaded it and tried it...
in finder is it still "mounted" in the upper left hand side? most likely it's dmg file is still mounted. just click the eject button and then delete it from your desktop (or whereever you downloaded it to. have you actually copied it into your applications folder yet? if so, you'll need to delete it from there also. [edit]why didn't it work? i was able to get it to work, but it wasn't what i expected - looked like the old really thin version pre-wmp9 or 10. have you downloaded and go other programs to work? not trying to be a jerk, just asking to determine the level of help you may need.[/edit] Last edited by eric; 12-20-2006 at 02:22 PM. |

make sure the program is off, the program is self contained; all it's components are within it. Drag it to the trash, and empty it.
if the program still isn't off, restart the mac, and make sure the first thing you do is delete the program. Something is using the program that's why it's not deleting. |

First, I'd recommend opening Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities) and seeing if there really is something called "htm" in use. If there is, force quit it and Empty your trash.
Secondly, sometimes simply dragging something from the Trash to the Desktop, then back to the trash will allow you to then Empty the trash. The last thing I'd try is follow these directions step by step (if it's a single file, not a folder): Open Terminal (Applications>Utilities). Type: cd ~/Desktop; rm -rf (Note the space at the end) Then drag the file from your trash to your Desktop. Then drag the file from your Desktop to the Terminal window. Hit "Return" in Terminal. Hopefully it will be gone... I try to Command+Shift+/ when I can. They're - Their - There | Two - Too - To | You're - Your | MAC - Mac I was on the M-F honor roll for October, 2006.

hi tried dragging and emptying trash - msg all files are locked.
Tried the terminal solution - msg says windows.app is a directory. What does this mean? When I checked the activity console I couldn't see anything that said htm, it must be hidden. Thing is I can't seem to get anything to work on a mac, must be thick! |

Note that you're using a Microsoft product and it's the item that's causing the problems, not the Mac. You can buy a Ferrari, but if you install crappy parts, it's not going to work correctly.
![]() If it's a folder, retry my Terminal directions, I've edited them. I try to Command+Shift+/ when I can. They're - Their - There | Two - Too - To | You're - Your | MAC - Mac I was on the M-F honor roll for October, 2006.

You need to include spaces.
Copy/Paste this into Terminal: cd ~/Desktop; rm -rf Then type one space and drag the problematic folder from your Desktop to the Terminal window. It should finally look like this: cd ~/Desktop; rm -rf ~/Desktop/STUPIDFOLDERHERE Then hit enter. I try to Command+Shift+/ when I can.
