Hey guys, just recently switched to Mac after 20 years of PC.

I have a 3 year old niece, is there a way to lock the macbook so no one can access it like in windows?

I dont want to shut it down, or put it to sleep, I just want it to be locked...

Is there a way for that?

I tried searching, but couldn't find any.

You can set the security rules (pw protection) in System Preferences > Security.

Thats not what you told him to do. If he puts it to sleep it will sleep. A better solution is to use hot corners to activate the screen saver. Or check out what I posted in this thread.

you can hotcorner it or if you dont like having it you can use lock screen. Want to lock your computer quickly?

thanks guys.

What i'm trying to do exactly is keep the internet connection/wireless connection ON while locking it.

Just like a PC can do with CTL/ALT/DEL - and you hit lock.

So I can do a hot corner, which will make the screen saver come on and then I can input the password.

I heard from a friend that there is a way to keep the wireless connection on while the computer goes to sleep (or when lid is shut) but it has to be a command line entry at the terminal prompt to get the card to not go to sleep.

WIll have to research.

Nice PowerBookG4

Edit: not that that isn't great it just still requires him to use the mouse.

I am still a fan of the Keychain-Access-in-the-MenuBar-Lock-Screen method.

I actually really like the widget approach. Its easy. F12, double click, done.

I'm gonna stick with that. all the programs are running, and its easy for me...for now, lol.

Thanks guys
