When you do a software update from osx using the software update app under the apple menu. Does apple collect any personal information or other software info from your machine? Do they view what songs you have? What software you have loaded? Any registration information etc.?

Well they clearly need to know which Apple software you have installed to know which updates you need. I don't believe any personally identifiable information is passed to Apple.

I beleve that Apple looks at your receipts folder to find out whats on your system and then displays the updates that your system needs.
