i pulled one of the icons out of the left hand list where is says network and the name of your hdd. i can find the icon but it wont allow me to put it back on the side...how do i get it to go back?

Exactly which icon is it?

Once we know this we could probably help you as there are different ways to recover certain icons.

if you go to the Finder menu and select Preferences, there is a Sidebar tab. Just put a check next to the ones you want to show up.
