hey, I'm a Linux user but my roomate has a mac running OSX 10. She's running out of disk space and I'm trying to free some stuff up. It appears that she still has the version 9 OS in addition to OSX 10. How do I delete this older installation?

You just don't 'delete' or 'uninstall' and operating system. You have to format the drive. So if you two have OSX,OS0 And linux all on the same hard drive you can get an external to free up space and I think you can allocate space to a certain operating system like 50gb>Linux and the rest 50gb>OSX.

If you cant do that your going to have to reformat the hard drive. Thats all I can tell you, I don't know how to reformat on a Mac....yet.

Drag it to the trash. Folders would include the System Folder and the Documents folder, and may include a Documentation folder and the Applications folder. There may be any number of others if System 9 had been used to any extent. File placement (including applications) isn't as important in 9, so some stuff could be anywhere.

There likely are other files if System 9 was run through Classic rather than separately booted, but most of the stuff would be gone, freeing up space.

Be careful you don't trash the System X versions of any folders with the same names.
