OS 10.4 - help g5 wont properly update

when i go into prefrences to update software the bar goes about a 3rd of the way and stays there for hours it says that the update is complete at the bottom but nothing is updated.

Try downloading the latest combo updater from apple here install that and if it installs cleanly retry performing updates.
