as you will be able to tell, i am still new to the mac world

i recently bought the Kodak Easyshare C340 digital camera . . the thing thats been buggin me is when i hook it up with the USB, the only way i can view my pics is if i transfer all of the pics from my camera with either iPhoto, or the Easyshare software. i was wondering, is there ANY way Mac OSX can recognize my digital camera as an exteral drive the same as Windows XP? like i just find that a lot more convenient then transfering pics without viewing them first

help is appreciated, thanks

You can also use image capture to down load, what ever images you want. I believe if you want the camera to act as a disk. You will need to change a setting on the camera. At least that is what I had to do with the HP camera I had.

RMan is correct. You can use Image Capture in the Applications Folder and get and view the pics there, but for it to mount on the desktop as a drive, there has to be a setting for Disk Drive mode for the USB. I grabbed the manual on your camera and searched but could find no option in any of the setup menus. Again like Rman stated, HP cameras have that setting in their setup menu as did the Olympus that I had for a while. Image Capture works quite well and you can view a preview before you copy unlike with iPhoto. Also you can pick which pics you actually want to copy to the computer.
