Mellow greetings, all.

I recently purchased a Powerbook Pro 15" 2Gig Intel Core Duo. After installing Office:2004, I installed Adobe CS (not 2, 'coz I heard that it runs really slow on the PBook Pro), which went off without a hitch. Thing is, when I tried to eject the CD, it just made this buzz-whirr sound, but didn't eject. It would then make this muffled whirring sound, then try to eject the CD again, without my prompting, but it would again stop. I've already tried restarting while holding the trackpad button, but it still won't eject!

I've also got a 12" Powerbook, but it's never had this kind of problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

Do you have an Apple store around?

I know a few software fixes for this, but it seems like a hardware problem. Also, it's a Macbook Pro, not a Powerbook Pro (no matter how much I want it to be...)

I try to Command+Shift+/ when I can.

Oh, yeah. MACbook Pro, hehe. Did I mention I just recently purchased it? Anyway, yeah, I'm beginning to think it's a hardware problem. I've been checking out the Hardware section of the 'boards, and I've tried resetting the PMU (still no go, dangit). I'm gonna try resetting the PRAM, and if that doesnt get it, i'm gonna send this puppy back.

I'm more than a little disappointed about this development, after all the hype of the Macbook Pro... *sigh*

Mellow greetings.

I've recently purchased a 15" 2Gig Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro, and I couldn't wait to see what it could do. I installed Office: 2004 and Adobe CS (but not 2, 'coz I heard that it would run slow on the MacBook Pro), but when I tried to eject Disk 2 of CS, it wouldn't come out; it would just make this struggling whirr-buzz noise, then stop, and the CD would appear on the desktop again.

I've tried holding down the trackpad button and the F12 key...nada. I've tried resetting the PRAM and PMU...nada.

If anyone knows how to manually eject a CD from the drive, I'd really appreciate it, 'coz if I have to return this MacBook Pro, it will have been the second time I've gotten it replaced (the first 'Book that was given to me had already been used - it already had a picture and the user name of some Indian chick from California!).

Any help would be most appreciated.

Reboot the MBP, as soon as it turns back on hold down the mouse key. This should eject it.

I've already tried that, as well as holding down the F12 key when rebooting. Nothing. Oh, and an update: I've updated the firmware already --- still nothing.

Thanks for the quick reply, though, much appreciated. Got any more?

Update: After I let the machine "rest" for an hour, it ejected my CD. Sheesh.

Beg pardon. I didn't mean to cross post. I had initially posted in the OS section, but later posted in the Hardware section, when someone told me it might be a hardware issue.

Again, apologies.

Thanks. 'preciate it.

On another subject, my MacBook's DVD drive hasn't acted up since that first time. I'm probably going to get it changed, though, just to be on the safe side-wouldn't want it going on the fritz after I can't get it replaced anymore...

Ah, in the future you could try what I did once for somebody.

Boot into Open Firmware by holding Command, Option, O+F during startup and then typing 'eject cd'.

It worked a charm for me after the f12 and mouse didnt work.

hmm...I tried (when it was still on the fritz) holding eject---didn't work. Never thought of booting into open firmware, but I did try reseting firmware. Thanks for the tip, Books. Here's hoping I'll never have to need to use it...

peayce.
